This directory contains C programs to replace the MakeTeX... scripts.
They were originally written by Fabrice Popineau, and adapted to
MS-DOS/DJGPP by Eli Zaretskii. They are intended to be used on
platforms where a Unix-like shell and associated utilities (`rm',
`mv', `grep', `sed', etc.) are not installed as part of the operating
system. Typical examples are MS-DOS, MS-Windows 3.x, Windows 9x and
Windows NT.

To build the programs, chdir to the parent of this directory (where
the sources of Kpathsea library are stored) and say this:

	make MakeTeXprogs

To install, copy maketex.exe, MakeTeXPK.exe, MakeTeXMF.exe,
MakeTeXTFM.exe MakeTeXls-R.exe, makempx.exe and dvihp.exe to a
directory on your PATH, and copy maketex.exe, MakeTeX-mkdir.exe,
MakeTeXnames.exe, and MakeTeXupdate.exe to $TEXMF/web2c. Then either
delete or rename the shell scripts by the same names in these two
directories, so they won't be invoked.

This is free software. See the files COPYING* for copying permissions.
The top-level headers are `pathsearch.h' for the generic path searching
support, and `tex-{file,glyph}.h' for the TeX-specific support.
